CROC orienteering event this weekend! Hope to see you there.

Catherine Creek is the closest area to Portland with advanced orienteering terrain: open areas and woodlands for cross-country running, with great views of the Columbia River Gorge and Mt. Hood.

To maximize these features and give you more time to enjoy them we have expanded our new map and designed a challenging long-distance event for intermediate and advanced orienteers. The Goat course is 10 km, traversing steep rocky terrain with a lot (400 m) of climbing. A shorter version of this course (a 6.6 km Kid with 300 m of climb) will be available. E-punch will be used on these two courses only.

There doesn't seem to be many races in the NW this year, so check out The Great Urban Race as a fun alternative. It is toned-down urban AR (without all the gear) traveling the country. Teams of two solve clues and complete challenges while navigating through the city using public transit. And you get to use all kinds of technology, including the internet and phoning friends for help.

The Columbia River Orienteering Club is putting on a meet September 20 at Powell Butte Nature Park. There will be four levels of courses, the longest a six-kilometer map exchange. Orienteering skills training, for beginners and advanced, will be given for no charge. The Butte has recently undergone vegetation changes making it an ideal site for a fast and challenging meet.

A Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race is a one day event aimed at challenging the bodies and minds of adventure enthusiasts. Test your limits on a scenic 40-50 km of mountain biking, navigation, trail running, kayaking and mystery challenges. Race solo, or in a team of 2 or 4. MOMAR after-parties are legendary, well deserved celebrations after a gruelling race day! Come out to race or volunteer and experience a weekend to remember for years to come.
