In 2002, Northwest Adventures produced the Summit Series. Five events that promoted the outdoor experience and fostered the growth of map and compass development. Each event provided racers with the option of choosing among a beginner, intermediate, or advanced course. This variety provided challenges for both the beginners and advanced racers and encouraged each participant to engage themselves in successfully completing each Summit Series course. In 2003 Northwest Adventures produced the TRIOBA Adventure Racing Series, which consisted of three races. Teams of two, three, or four kayaked, mountain biked, and trekked their way over the spectacular landscape of the Cascade Range in Washington State. Participants found themselves battling the rugged terrain and unpredictable weather in an effort to complete the TRIOBA courses in 24 hours and place them in a position to collect a portion of the $3,000 TRIOBA Adventure Racing Series cash purse. In 2004, the TRIOBA ARS returns, with new races in new locations to bring participants different challenges and terrain. The TRIOBA 24-Hour Series will bring additional disciplines and a longer format to take adventure racing in the Pacific Northwest to the next level. In addition, Northwest Adventures will add three shorter duration races to give beginners and intermediate racers the experience necessary to compete in longer races. NW Adventures will also host a series of clinics on adventure racing, with topics ranging from âwhat to pack for an adventure raceâ to âhow to complete the fixed rope sectionâ.
