Always trust your navigation tools during training or a race. Your compass rarely ever lies (it's usually right more times than you will be! 
), trust your elevation if you've been properly setting your altimeter, and trust your bike computer to be fairly accurate about terrain distance travelled.
These will greatly aid you in locating your position on the map.
